The Pharmacists Union from the District of Braga was founded in that city in 1899, and its first president was Francisco Xavier Gonçalves de Lima. In 1927, it had 120 members.

 

Those were its functionalities:

 

"1st - To encourage, by all means permitted by law, the respect of the rights and prerogatives of the pharmaceutical class;

  2nd - To defend any member, when his professional dignity is offended;

  3rd - To prosecute against any individual that practice pharmacy illegally;

  4th - To resolve professional issues raised by its members."
